A Bit About Me

Hello and welcome to my wine blog! This is going to be an interesting experience, as I have very very little experience with wine thus far in my life. As a recent 21 year old, I have not had much experience with wine, but know some basic differences between different types of wine. The main experiences or memories that I have of wine are from my grandparents, as both my grandmothers are very big wine drinkers. My maternal grandmother is solely a chardonnay drinker, and it does not matter really where it came from. My paternal grandmother is quite opposite however, as she loves a good red wine and had a secret wine cellar in her house when I was little! She loved to collect wine and the experience of it, and I hope to gain a similar appreciation as her through this course.

Reds and whites, table wines and sparkling wines, is about the extent of my knowledge. I know about some other different kinds of fruit wines, but have not really drank much wine in my lifetime. From the occasional sip from my parents drink, I do know that I favor white wine more than I do red, but would like to explore further the reasons as to why this may be. I enjoy sparkling wine as well, as I have mainly experienced this in the form of a good mimosa. As I don't know what elements make up wine, maybe I will grow to have an appreciation for red wine once I better understand it!

From this course, I hope that I can become a bit of a savant in understanding wine. As discussed last week, wine is a language and often one that can be spoken across the world and across cultures. I really want to learn how wine is made, why we enjoy it so much, and what makes wine, well, wine! I am excited to be able to learn how to pair wine and food, and think that this could really elevate my dinner party game. I do consider myself a bit of a "foodie," and love to explore unique food experiences. But I want to take that experience to the next level and include wine in these experiences. If food lovers are "foodies," are wine lovers "wine-ies?" I'm not sure, but I hope to become at least a little "winey" throughout this course. Alright, I guess its time to wine this down (Warning: I love a good pun).
